Dr. Eduard Vieta is the Head of the Psychiatry and Psychology Service of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and of the research group on bipolar and depressive disorders of the Institut d'Investigació Biomèdica August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), and is also a professor of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Institute of Neurosciences of the University of Barcelona. He also works as scientific director of the Center for Biomedical Research in Mental Health Network (CIBERSAM) and has focused his research activity on the study of the causes and the pharmacological and psychological treatment of bipolar disorder and depression.

He is Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Valencia and has published more than 600 articles, 370 book chapters and 32 books. He is part of the editorial board of 18 scientific journals. He has more than 22593 citations (Scopus), which make him the most cited scientist in the world in the field of bipolar disorder in the last 5 years.
